Today we had early morning showers. Rain quitting around lunch.  We met for breakfast and ate a very good meal.  I had Irish pancakes with bacon.  Linda, Amanda, and Harry had (Irish) French toast.  It was all good.  After breakfast we left for a short walk to the Guinness Storehouse.  The storehouse is a 7 level building, formerly used to make Guinness Beer.  The building has since been transformed into an educational center that tell the Guinness story,  from its early beginnings to present day.  Very interesting, very impressive. Upon entry into the storehouse the first thing you see is the 9,000 year lease that Arthur Guinness signed and sealed in 1759.  So began the history the the iconic Guinness beer known the world over.  If you are in Dublin, beer drinker or not, visit the storehouse.  I feel you would enjoy the tour. After leaving the storehouse we returned to our hotel and parted company with Linda and Amanda....

You could not ask for better weather than we had today. Not a cloud in the sky, temperature in the mid 50's. We met Harry and Amanda for breakfast in the hotel and afterwards began our tour of Dublin. We walked to Connelley Train Station and printed our tickets to Belfast for Monday. Then we walked to the Dublin Spire to meet our tour guide. Our guide was Sam McGovern. Sam is a native of Ireland and is a professional actor. He has appeared in several movies and does a lot of commercials in Ireland. One of his movies can be seen on NetFlix. The name of his NetFlix movie is "Michael Inside". Just google Sam McGovern, actor and you will see a list of Sam's movies. As I said, the weather was great and 3 and 1/2 hours and 15,000 steps later, we finished our tour. We had made a new friend and he shared a great deal of the history of Dublin and Ireland with us. I felt this was one of best tours we have had in our travels. If your travels bring you to Dublin, and yo...

Finally 03/09/2022

Our departure from Wetumpka began under cloudy skies, on our way to the Atlanta airport.  The cloudy skies soon became a downpour.  After a 3 hour drive, in a driving rain, we arrived in Atlanta safely.  We left our car in long term parking at the Marriott and checked in with Delta for our flight.  Everything was in order and we had a 3 hour wait to board our flight.  We went to the Sky Club and waited until boarding time.  The rain continued to fall. Delta has changed their boarding procedures.  Now if you are active duty military or retired military, you are allowed to board before 1st Class passengers.  Linda and I took advantage of this perk and left Amanda and Harry waiting in line.  Boarding first means that all the overhead bins are empty, and you get to stow your carry-ons first.  Amanda and Harry boarded soon afterwards. I had allowed a two hour layover in Boston for a plane change.  This was fortunate  because a thund...

Embarkation Day 03/08/2022

Have you ever been to Ireland?  Have you ever wanted to go to Ireland?  Now is your opportunity to experience Ireland, vicariously, through the eyes of Harry and Amanda, Linda and myself.  We are leaving Prattville and Wetumpka on the first leg of our journey to Ireland.  Atlanta to Boston then Boston to Dublin.  We will arrive about 0930 tomorrow. (around 0330 CST). A friend asked me once how I would describe my life. I felt it was a life of adventure.  I came of age as a very young Army helicopter pilot, flying Hueys in Vietnam. I spent the next 40 years flying helicopters and fixed wing aircraft for the Alabama, U.S. Army ,and the Southern Company. My real adventure started when I met and married Linda Hicks in 1974.  This trip marks our 48th wedding anniversary.  The adventure continues. Through the last decade we have traveled all over Europe with Harry and Amanda, and this trip will be another chapter in our adventure book. So join us ...
